bullet River City Rowing Club - Master Teams
The River City Rowing Club's Masters teams are for adults. The prerequisites, goals, and expectations for each team are summarized below. If you have any further questions, please contact the coach for the team in which you are interested. (For information on the Juniors teams, go to http://rivercityjuniors.org/. WOMEN
ADVANCED MASTERS: Top of Page

PREREQUISITE:
  • Minimum of 1 year of rowing experience
GOAL:
  • Racing performance, i.e., winning races
EXPECTATIONS:
  • Ability to make the majority of scheduled practices
  • Commitment to racing in the majority of season's regattas
  • Turn in weekly erg times to the coach
  • Perform additional fitness training as instructed by the coach
  • Demonstrate a good level of rowing

PREREQUISITE:
  • Minimum of 1 year of rowing experience or coach’s permission
GOALS:
  • Focus on Open events at local and national regattas
  • To medal at races
  • To perform at a high level of technical skill
EXPECTATIONS:
  • Demonstrate an advanced level of technical ability
  • Desire to work hard and compete at a high level
  • Commitment to improve physical and technical ability throughout the season
  • Commitment to attend the majority of scheduled practices
  • Commitment to complete assigned erg workouts and tests
  • Commitment to race in the majority of the season's regattas
INTERMEDIATE MASTERS: (Team Statement/Definition)* Top of Page

PREREQUISITE:
  • Minimum of 1 year of rowing experience
GOAL:
  • Improve rowing skills and fitness level
EXPECTATIONS: (Print)*
  • Come to 80% of practices rain or shine, arriving no later than 5:15 AM to help bring
    oars and launch equipment down to the dock
  • When unable to come to practice, let the coach know by 9:00 PM the previous evening, or no later than 4:45 AM the morning of practice
  • Maintain a focused attitude while in the boat, listening to the coxswain and coach and refraining from talking
  • Cheerfully accept any position in any boat, including the launch and coxswain’s duty
  • Refrain from "coaching" in the boat or speaking ill of teammates
  • Commit to each race you signed up for (as a commitment to your team)
  • Strive to maintain a high fitness level by doing at least two off-water workouts per week
  • Complete erg assignments and report times to the coach
  • Help with team chores as required, such as bringing oars back to the boathouse, cleaning the boathouse as assigned by rotation, and loading/unloading boats for races
  • Contribute to the overall health of RCRC by volunteering time to club committees and activities

PREREQUISITE:
  • Completion of the RCRC novice program
  • Minimum of 1 year rowing experience or coach's permission
GOALS:
  • Practices and workouts emphasize fitness, technical skills, sweep rowing, as well as sculling, and a lot of friendly competition
  • Racing in both sprint and head races at the regional and national level, with the focus being Boston's Head of the Charles Regatta in the Fall
EXPECTATIONS:
  • To work diligently toward improving fitness and rowing skills
  • To respect other members by showing up on time and ready to row
  • Giving advance notice when you cannot attend practice
  • Regularly attend practices (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings) with the option of additional assigned workouts for those wishing to compete

MIXED MASTERS Top of Page

PREREQUISITE:
  • Completion of the Learn to Row program or have had basic rowing or sculling lessons
GOALS:
  • Create an environment for men and women to row on a mixed team to further develop their rowing skills and to enhance their fitness while rowing
EXPECTATIONS:
  • Additional training is encouraged with consideration for each rower's goals and aspirations
  • Competing in regional and local races is highly encouraged
  • Committing to a practice schedule
  • Enjoy the camaraderie of a mixed team environment
NOVICE MIXED MASTERS Top of Page

PREREQUISITE:
  • No rowing experience or less than 1 year of rowing experience
    (with college / university or other rowing club)
  • Completion of the Learn to Row program
GOALS:
  • Focus will be on sweep rowing
  • Learn the technical fundamentals of sweep rowing
  • Increase strength and endurance
  • Prepare for transitional novice team and racing
  • Teamwork
The NOVICE TEAM is co-ed and will start in July and run through December. In January, the team will move to the transitional novice team for 6 months.
